Commissioning for the future of Pendle is an event which was held on the 29th June 2010 at the ACE Centre in Nelson. It was arranged by the East Lancashire Community Action Project (ELCAP) in association with the Council for Voluntary Services (CVS).
It was an exclusive event attended by Third Sector representatives from national, regional levels and from the local government. Some of the main outcomes of the programme were to increase awareness and understanding of the third sector and to help improve access to specialist knowledge that will benefit the delivery of public services.
The event was hosted by Peter Sweetmore of the CVS and guest speakers included, Paul Hussey of Pendle Borough Council, David Smith of Lancashire County Council, Eamon Greene from Government Office and Peter Brown from the University of Central Lancashire.
During the conference it was discussed that the Third Sector needs to provide support quicker to the people in need due to the recession having made quite an impact on many sectors. Also due to budget cuts many Third Sector organisations need to save money and improve efficiency.
Overall this unique conference was a success and it brought together policy and decision makers to work around;
- reducing costs
- improving efficiency and productivity
- increasing information accessibility, collaboration and sharing
