The show focuses on health and provides listeners with advice and useful tips on overcoming health problems, maintaining a healthy diet which can lead to healthier lifestyles. Shakil enjoys talking to guests during the show and taking live calls from the listeners.

Shakil Salam joined Pendle Community Radio in 2008 to provide vital health information on a weekly health show called ‘Aap Ki Sehat’ which means ‘Your Health’. The show became a hit with the local community who realised the importance of health and leading healthy lifestyles. The programme was liked by many in the community who appreciated receiving health advice and information in the comfort of their own homes. Listeners began to participate in the live health shows by calling in and asking questions.

Shakil left the radio station in 2010 due to other commitments. However, due to the popularity of the show a special request was made to Shakil to return to the radio station for the Aap Ki Sehat health show. In 2011 Shakil made his comeback with a bigger and better health show. Since then, he invites health professionals from across the UK and tackles key issues effecting the community. Shakil highlights and discusses a variety of health topics such as the harmful effects of smoking shisha to looking after your heart. Other recent health topics discussed on the show include:

• Kidney Disease
• Giving Blood
• Thalassemia
• TB
• Swine Flu
• Hajj Health
• Depression
• Autism
• ADHD
• and many other key health topics……

Shakil has worked for the NHS for the past 15 years, promoting health in the community and has used the media effectively to reach the diverse community in East Lancashire.

Shakil now works for Carers Contact who provide support and information to carers in the community. As well as the radio, Shakil also presents a health show called ‘Hamari Sehat’ on Ummah Channel (Sky 828) every Sunday at 2pm and also writes articles on health and social issues for Daily Jang, a popular Urdu newspaper from London.

Shakil Salam said, “It is my passion to use media to promote healthy messages and I am really pleased when I meet people who appreciate the information and health messages I am promoting. People are taking the messages on board and making small changes towards healthier lifestyles. I hope to continue my work on highlighting and promoting the importance of health and continuing to spread the message to the people of Pendle through Pendle Community Radio and also throughout the UK through the use of different media.

Shakil is also a keen photographer and loves calligraphy.
